Next week we will be reading and retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man. We will be making our own gingerbread men, painting our favourite nursery rhyme or traditional story characters, using a ‘Traditional Tales’ phonebook, and using a dice to recognise dots as numbers while creating our own gingerbread man pictures. In our small sound groups we will be listening out for the initial sound in words through playing name games. If you would like to support your child at home with this, you could at first try repeating the first sound, eg. J-j-j-jamal. This could be repeated for other family members. You could also try some alliteration with your child’s name, eg. Jumping Jamal, Dinosaur Dan.
The children have enjoyed acting out the story, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and trip-trapping over the bridges they built!
We also planted cress seeds for the billy goats gruff to eat next week! We will be keeping them in different conditions, to see how they grow over the weekend and will review them on Monday.
The children loved mark-making in response to the story. They had a go at drawing the characters, a bridge, a river and some fresh green grass, using straight, curved, wavy and zig-zag lines.
This week in PE the children were learning to jump from hoop to hoop using two feet together. They thoroughly enjoyed this and continued to make rows of hoops in their freeflow time and practised their skills. We progressed onto balancing on foot and jumping on one foot, with some support.
We continued to reinforce rhyming by reading rhyming stories regularly and singing using our rhyming story bag.
Please remember we have PE on Wednesdays. It would be very helpful if all children could wear suitable shoes and socks instead of tights.

This week we will be reading and retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs, and getting creative with ‘huff and puff’ blow painting and colour mixing. We will be building houses and other structures with different materials, estimating and counting bricks, learning how to program a bee-bot, and continuing to play games on the theme of rhyming.
The children have loved telling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears using props and masks.
We have had lots of fun making porridge outside and tasting porridge for real inside. Chicks were not fans of porridge overall but Ducklings loved it! We sampled plain, salty and sweet porridge, and encouraged the children to use this vocabulary in their story retelling.
We continued to roleplay making porridge and bears in the provision using dry oats and playdough…
The cold weather at the beginning of the week meant we spent some time investigating the ice that had formed on our play tray lids.
This week the children have also been ordering the three bears by size and height.
